New Google Bomb hits the web
After "Miserable failure", "insignifiant" and many other Google Bombs, Google changed its algorithm so that Google Bombs could no longer be perpetrated. Unfortunately, another Google Bomb has been sparked yesterday. A quick search for "dangerous cult" now shows us the Church of Scientology's website.
Google Bombing is when a group of bloggers and webmaster league together to link to a certain website with a certain keyword, prompting that website to show up when searching on Google for that particular keyword. This phenomenon showed the true power of links in SEO and search engine results.
To us, the nature of this particular Bomb is not that important, we are not here to judge people's religious beliefs. However the fact that the Bomb exists is really curious since everyone thought Google had fixed the problem. What is interesting this time is that social bookmarking has played a huge role in the creation of this Google Bomb. The bombers used Digg and other social media websites to promote their deed and to entice other people to participate. It is now only a question of time before Google swoops in and deletes the Bomb.
Google Bombing and social media alike are bringing up delicate issues that Google will have to deal with soon.
